Careers Hub launches to showcase diverse medical research career pathways

BioMelbourne Network has today launched the Careers Hub, a comprehensive digital platform designed to showcase diverse career pathways available across the health technologies and medical research sector, with support from the Victorian Government.

The publicly-accessible platform features interactive career mapping, a specialised jobs board, a pilot mentoring programme for the clinical trials sector, and a community forum to connect professionals across Victoria’s medical research ecosystem.

Victoria’s medical research sector is a global leader, comprising over 18 medical research institutes,11 universities, and more than 500 industry companies. The sector employs over 30,000 talented professionals and is responsible for over 40 per cent of Australia’s research output in medical and health sciences.

The Careers Hub, hosted on  Wilam, addresses a well-known challenge across the sector – limited awareness of the breadth of career pathways and opportunities available beyond traditional research roles.

It showcases the broad spectrum of possibilities spanning from roles in universities and research institutes, through industry, clinical trials, healthcare settings and public health, and highlights the skills, experience and qualifications needed for Australia’s talented workforce to transition between them.

Key features of the Careers Hub include:

  • Interactive career mapping tool – visualises potential career progressions and transitions between different research environments, including academia and industry
  • Specialised jobs board – connects employers with qualified candidates specifically interested inmedical research roles
  • Pilot mentoring program – provides structured guidance from experienced professionals, with a focus on clinical trials workforce development
  • Professional community – enables networking and knowledge sharing among peers across the medical research ecosystem.

Karen Parr, CEO, BioMelbourne Network says the launch of the Careers Hub represents a significant step forward in supporting Victoria’s medical research workforce.

“By making career pathways more visible and accessible, we’re helping talented professionals discover opportunities they may never have considered while strengthening the sector’s ability to attract and retain top talent.

“This portal goes beyond traditional job boards by providing comprehensive career mapping, mentoring support, and community connections. Whether you’re a graduate exploring entry points, a mid-career researcher considering industry roles, or a professional looking for your next challenge, the Careers Hub provides the resources and connections needed to navigate your career journey with confidence.”
