Expressions of Interest to join the BioMelbourne Network Board – Nominated and Elected Members

Are you passionate about advancing healthcare through research, innovation, and advocacy in the health technologies sector?

BioMelbourne Network (BMN) is a not-for-profit, incorporated organisation and the peak body for Victoria’s health technologies industry. Since 2001, BMN has driven engagement and growth in innovation, commercialisation, and manufacturing through local and international networks. We foster a globally competitive sector and play a transformative role in the broader Victorian ecosystem.

We are currently seeking three committed individuals to join our Board as non-remunerated Board members. These roles are vital in guiding BMN’s strategic direction, strengthening governance, and amplifying our impact across the sector.

Key responsibilities

· Governance & strategic oversight: Contribute to BioMelbourne Network’s strategic direction and initiatives, ensuring alignment with our mission and values. Read more here.

· Board collaboration: Work constructively with fellow Board members, the CEO, and the executive team to make informed decisions that benefit our members and stakeholders.

· Advocacy & government affairs: Champion the health technology industry, build relationships with key stakeholders, and support BMN’s advocacy efforts.

· Commitment: Attend approximately six Board meetings annually, participate in subcommittees, and engage in BMN events.

Ideal candidate profile

We are seeking candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas:

1. Finance: Experience in financial reporting, risk management, budgeting, audit, regulatory compliance, and investment strategy. Familiarity with NFP sector financials is highly desirable.

2. Government affairs and communications: Senior-level experience in government affairs and campaigns (media and digital channels), with a demonstrated ability to influence and engage.

3. Information Management: Expertise in ICT systems, data privacy, cybersecurity, and risk management.

In addition, ideal candidates will demonstrate:

· Board experience, particularly within the not-for-profit or for-purpose sectors (highly desirable).

· Graduation from the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) – Company Directors Course (strongly preferred).

· Relevant qualifications in finance, business, advocacy, governance, or science.

· Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

· A passion for innovation in healthcare and alignment with BMN’s mission.

Nominations require support from two current BioMelbourne Network members.

Applicants must be employed by a financial member organisation of BMN or be willing to join. Multiple EOIs may be submitted from the same member organisation.

The BMN Board will review EOIs and endorse three candidates: two for election at the 2025 AGM and one for direct appointment.
