Cell Therapies and VVMF enter strategic collaboration to strengthen Australia’s development and manufacturing of advanced therapy medicinal products

Cell Therapies Pty Ltd and Viral Vector Manufacturing Facility Pty Ltd (VVMF) formalised a strategic collaboration through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing the domestic development and manufacturing of Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs).

The agreement signalled a joint commitment to expanding access to cell and gene therapies (CGTs) for both Australian and international patients, particularly through clinical trial pathways. A key objective of the partnership was to build sovereign capabilities across Australia’s CGT sector to meet growing global demand and reinforce the Asia Pacific region’s role in next-generation therapeutic innovation.

“This collaboration advanced efforts to secure a fully integrated onshore value chain for advanced therapies in Australia,” said Cell Therapies CEO Bev Menner. “It enhanced patient access to cutting-edge treatments, strengthened clinical trial and translational capabilities, and supported export-readiness across APAC.”

The MoU also confirmed a shared vision to scale biomanufacturing infrastructure and support workforce development in highly specialised manufacturing processes. VVMF CEO Stephen Thompson stated: “Our complementary strengths and services reinforced Australia’s unique biomanufacturing ecosystem and showcased why Australia is a premier destination for the development and production of cell and gene therapies.”

Cell Therapies is a leading Australian contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO) focused on CGTs, with extensive experience in GMP manufacturing and product translation. VVMF is the nation’s only CDMO dedicated exclusively to viral vector development and production – a cornerstone technology for delivering genetic material in ATMPs.

The collaboration is expected to help position Australia as a globally competitive hub for advanced therapy innovation and manufacturing.
